Geyser Timers – Simple, proven energy saving.
At Geyser Efficiency Solutions, we have a specialist teams that install geyser timers in Johannesburg urg and deliver super fast and efficient service to make sure you can start saving money and electricity straight away.
Geyser timers are one of the simplest and most effective ways of controlling your geyser and , by reducing the number of times it switches on during the day – especially when you DON’T need it to- you can reduce the electricity consumption of your geyser by around 37%.
This was proven by an independent energy efficiency study and you can read the report for yourself here.
It works like this.
Your geyser has a thermostat which is set to a temperature of let’s say 60° Celsius. When the geyser is switched on,it heat the water in the geyser using a heating element.
Once the set temperature is reached, the thermostat switches off.
Due to the natural process of thermodynamics, the hotter water in the geyser gives off heat to the surrounding cooler air and so the water temperature cools.
Once it gets below a certain level , let’s say 58° , the thermostat switches back on to re-heat the water back to 60°.
And so the cycle continues.
The problem here is that every time that geyser switches on , it uses around 4000W or 4 kW to do that , and if it only take 30 minutes to reheat the water , that would use 2 kWh electrical units- which you pay for.
Now, considering this process can happen 10-20 times per day , this would cost you around 20kWh per day (minimum), or 600kWH per month in WASTED ELECTRICITY.
It’s wasted because most of the time, that hot water is not going to be used and that’s where geyser timers come into play.
How geyser timers save electricity.
So, if you shower/bath in the morning and evening , around 7am and 7pm, you really don’t need the geyser to be on during the day.
Estimating that a geyser would take around 3 hours to heat the water back to temperature, a geyser timer would switch the geyser on at around 4am and 4pm and then switch if off again around 7am and 7pm.
So now, your geyser is only switching on twice a day instead of 10-20 times per day and this cuts the electricity consumption on the geyser by around 37%.
How much money can you save with geyser timers?
Let’s say then that your average monthly electricity bill is R1500-00, with about 50% of that attributed to geyser usages.
So 50% of R1500-00 = R750-00.
37% Saving on R750-00 = R277-50
R277-50 = 18,5% saving overall.
